Criminals Posing as Area Agency on Aging Officials

******FRAUD ALERT******

Arkansas Attorney General warned older citizens in his state to be on the lookout for people posing as officials with local Area Agencies on Aging (AAA). Criminals claiming to be AAA officials recently told older adults in eastern Arkansas that they had been sent by their agency to help them with their energy bills. They asked permission to go through the homes so they could take dimensions of rooms and windows. While doing this, they took valuables from the homes. The bogus AAA officials also obtained sensitive credit account and personal information from these older adults while pretending to fill out forms necessary for the energy assistance program. The imposters did not produce credentials or arrive at these homes in vehicles bearing the name and logo of a government agency.

No such scams have been reported in North Carolina.
