"Sheriff" Seeking $$$ for Bullet-Proof Vests


Marsha Shortell of the Asheville Police Department shares the following alert with fellow members of the Task Force:

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that residents in Polk County have received telephone calls from an individual pretending to be Sheriff Chris Abril in a telephone scam intended to bilk unsuspecting citizens. The caller claims that the Polk County Sheriff's Office needs money for new bullet-proof vests. Polk County deputies request that anyone receiving such a phone call asking for money call the Sheriff's Office at 828-894-3001.
