Fayetteville PD Warns Seniors About "Jury Duty" Scammer

The Fayetteville Police Department is warning older citizens today that a phone scammer is targeting them. According to WRAL-TV News, the scammer calls and identifies himself as a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy. He then claims that the call recipient has failed to honor a summons to appear for jury duty. He warns that the call recipient will be arrested if he or she fails to send money to pay off a non-appearance penalty. The caller’s number appears on caller ID screens as 910-234-0935.

Anyone in Fayetteville who receives such a call is encouraged to call the Fayetteville PD’s Fraud Division, telephone 910-433-1856. NC citizens living elsewhere who receive such calls are encouraged to contact local law enforcement or the NC Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division (tel. 919-716-6000 or toll-free in NC 1-877-566-7226).
