Trade Practices Alert:

Insurance Agents Claiming to Be NC Senior Care Reps

The Office of the Governor and members of the Task Force have received reports that a few salesmen are misrepresenting themselves as agents of the Governor's NC Senior Care Prescription Drug Benefits Program. These salesmen reportedly offer to visit older adults' homes, explain the program, and provide assistance in filling out the NC Senior Care application form. While there, they reportedly learn important information about the older adults' estate planning strategies and personal finances, then attempt to sell them annuities or other insurance products.

Representatives of NC Senior Care do not make these types of house-calls. Older adults wishing to learn more about the program and apply for benefits are encouraged to do so by calling NC Senior Care's toll-free number, 1-866-226-1388. They can also learn more about NC Senior Care by going to that program's website, www.seniorcare.com Individuals who engage in the practices described above should be reported to local law enforcement and the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General's Office (toll free ph. number for NC calls: 1-877-566-7226).
