Tar Heel Legislature
Celebrates 10th Anniversary
| Approximately
175 people attended the 10 year anniversary luncheon celebration
at the Sheraton Capital Center in Raleigh including Senior Tar
Heel Legislature delegates and alternates, former delegates,
elected officials including Cabinet members and members of the
General Assembly, and persons instrumental in the development
and operation of the Senior Tar Heel Legislature over the ten
years. |

2003 Speaker, Dorothy
Crawford, is presented a plaque honoring the Senior Tar Heell
Legislature as a Positive Images in Aging Award receipient
from the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging.
Presenting the award is Carolyn Tracy, Chair of the NC Association
of Area Agencies on Aging

Ruth Watkins, Robeson
County Delegate and Parliamentarian of the Senior Tar Heel
Legislature, is presented with the Margaret Hart Hardee Award
by the NC Association of Area Agencies on Aging, by Brad
Allen, Area Agency on Aging Director with the Lumbee River
Council of Governments.

from VRW Post 10630 in Hope Mills presents the colors.

Evelyn Berger,
Mecklenburg County Delegate and Chaplain of the Senior Tar
Heel Legislature, delivers the invocation.

Iantha Mitchell,
former Sampson County Delegate, is honored on the occasion
of her 94`h birthday.
|

Lt. Governor Beverly
Perdue who was the sponsor of the legislation to create the
Senior Tar Heel Legislature, delivers the key note address
at the 10 year celebration. To the right of the Lt. Governor
is Vernon Dull, Davie County delegate, who was selected at
the meeting to be the Speaker of the Senior Tar Heel Legislature
for 2003-2005.

Twenty-nine delegates
and alternates who have served in the Senior Tar Heel Legislature
for ten years were honored at the 10 year anniversary celebration.
Some of those honored included, from left to right, Seroba
Aiken from Greene Countv. Evelyn Berger from Mecklenburg
County. Betty Babb from Cabarrus County, Lloyd Steen from
Henderson County. Robert Baker from Yadkin County, and Alice
Ballance from Bertie County.
