Registration: The first time you register for the medication exam, you must submit a registration form to the adult care licensure section. In order to receive confirmation by mail, the registration must be prior to the cutoff date. Submitting the registration form prior to the cutoff date does not guarantee registration for the chosen exam sites. If the exam sites chosen are full when the registration form is received, you will be registered for the next available exam site.
Once you have initially been registered for a test, you may use the automated Voice Response System to confirm your registration or check to see if you passed an exam. The number for the automated voice response is 919-733-7615. You may access this number 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You will need a touch tone phone, your social security number and the exam code. To change the exam site, date or time, contact the Adult Care Licensure Section at 919-855-3793. If you have any questions regarding the medication testing or scheduling, you are to contact the adult care licensure section. Do not contact the location site with questions about the testing or scheduling.
"No Walk-ins" are allowed. Pre-registration is required to take the test.
If you have not received a confirmation letter, you must confirm your registration before going to the test site. You must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the test time, in order to guarantee your space. Once testing has begun, no one will be admitted into the testing area. An original photo ID is required for all testing. No faxes or copies will be accepted.
Only individuals registered for tests are to be at test sites. Other individuals, such as residents of facilities and children, are not to be at test sites. Some test site locations do not allow children or other persons in the building. If a resident of a facility is left unsupervised, the responsible person taking a test will be asked to leave the testing and an administrative penalty may result. If children are brought to the test sites, the responsible party may be asked to leave the testing. Every effort is to be made to keep any distractions or annoyances to a minimum.
If you have taken the medication aide test for the adult care homes, it does not qualify you to pass medications in a nursing home.
Individuals who wish to work as a Medication Aide in a Nursing Home must contact the Health Care Personnel Registry at 919-855-3969 or the Board of Nursing at 919-782-3211 for information and specify that you are interested in working in a nursing home.
