This February 2006 report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is a guide to modern statewide trauma system development. The Model System Planning and Evaluation is designed to provide direction on using the public health approach, a scientifically proven method, when developing and evaluating trauma systems.

August 2004, North Carolina underwent a three day review of its trauma system
by a team of specialists from the American College of Surgeons. The report
from this consult visit provides an extensive
discussion of each trauma system component, its current status and recommendations
for the future.

- Pediatric Interfacility Guidelines (PDF, 537 KB)
The Pediatric Inter-facility Transfer Guidelines were developed by a workgroup of the Emergency Medical Services for Children Advisory Committee to assist hospitals in pre-planning for the transfer of critically ill or injured pediatric patients when the patients' needs exceed the capabilities or resources of the receiving hospital. Pre-planning helps to ensure that the pediatric patient will receive timely and appropriate emergency care so that the best outcomes may be achieved.
- Trauma System Agenda for the Future
The Trauma System Agenda for the Future is a national action plan for trauma care. Ideas are reflected from hundreds of professionals and are based on decades of experience. Key issues are identified in four fundamental components of the trauma care system and eight key infrastructure elements critical to trauma system success are discussed.
