NPI Announcement – April 5, 2007
Implementation Delay

Based on the CMS announcement that it is implementing a contingency plan for covered entities who will not meet the May 23, 2007, deadline for NPI implementation, DMA will not require the NPI on claims effective May 18, 2007 as previously announced. DMA will continue to adjudicate claims using the Medicaid Provider Number until further notice.

DMA will continue to collect NPI information. We strongly encourage providers to begin submitting claims using both their Medicaid Provider Number and NPI . In addition, we are requesting that providers begin
utilizing the new claim forms. Remember, with the delay in implementation of the NPI, claims submitted without a Medicaid Provider Number will deny.

Further information regarding our new implementation date will be communicated when available. DMA will be communicating all NPI updates first via email from our NPI Mailing List. If you have not subscribed to our email list, please do so immediately.

We will also continue to disseminate NPI information to the provider community via bulletins, RA banner messages, email blasts and the DMA webpage.
