Find a Medicaid Doctor or Dentist

Click here to learn more about Medicaid Reform

There are several ways to find a Medicaid doctor, dentist, or other medical provider. Before you make an appointment, be sure to ask if the provider still takes Medicaid patients.

Community Care of North Carolina/Carolina ACCESS Primary Care Providers (CCNC/CA PCP)

In this section, you will find a list of Community Care of North Carolina/Carolina ACCESS Primary Care Providers (CCNC/CA PCP).  These providers have accepted NC Medicaid CCNC/CA and Health Choice in the past; however, you will need to contact the practice you have chosen and ask if they are still a NC Medicaid CCNC/CA and Health Choice provider and if they are taking new patients.  Your case worker at your local Department of Social Services (DSS) will be glad to link you to the new provider you have chosen.  You can also obtain a list of these providers from your local DSS.

Dental

You do not need a referral from your primary doctor to see a dentist.

Mental Health

If you are under 21, you must get a referral to see a mental health provider. Referrals must be made by a Community Care of North Carolina/Carolina ACCESS (CCNC/CA) primary care provider, Medicaid-enrolled psychiatrist, or local management entity (LME).

If you are 21 and older, you do not need to have a referral to see a mental health provider.

NC Medicaid Specialist Providers

In this section, you will find lists of NC Medicaid Specialist Providers.  If you need to see a specialist, and you are enrolled in CCNC/CA with a Primary Care Provider (PCP), you are required to obtain a referral from the PCP who is on your card at that date of serviceOnly the PCP on your card at that date of service can give you a referral (not even an ER doctor). If the PCP on your current card will not give referrals, the providers you see during that time will need to call  919-855-4780 and press option # 8 to request an override.
