Prior Authorization for High Cost Drugs Contacts

ACS assumes responsibility for responding to general information requests regarding the Pharmacy Prior Authorization/Help Desk Services program. Prior authorization is required before certain drugs can be prescribed for NC Medicaid patients. These drugs are singled out because of their expense and potential for over-utilization or abuse. Emergency/72-Hour Supply Paper Claims Submission:

Should a pharmacy need to dispense medication to a recipient in an emergency, the pharmacist will call ACS for approval. If it is after hours (the call center is closed), the pharmacist can authorize a 72-hour supply.
