The renewal application for the 1915(b) MH/DD/SAS Health Plan Waiver is due to CMS at least 90 days prior to its expiration date on April 1, 2011. Please contact DMA at DMA.Waiver@dhhs.nc.gov by December 6, 2010, if you would like to provide input on the waiver renewal application.
The MH/DD/SAS waiver is a prepaid managed care plan that currently operates in the Piedmont Behavioral Healthcare (PBH) catchment area. PBH is a local management entity (LME) for mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse services.
This program was implemented on April 1, 2005, in the Piedmont catchment area – Cabarrus, Davidson, Rowan, Stanly, and Union counties – for the delivery of Medicaid covered behavioral health services. The program represents the collaborative efforts of DMA, the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, Piedmont Behavioral Healthcare, and the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services.
Mecklenburg County Area MH/DD/SA has been selected to be the next LME to participate in the State’s Medicaid Waiver for mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services. More information on the waiver expansion project > >
Services include all Medicaid covered mental health and substance abuse services as well as the N.C. Innovations waiver program, which replaces the Community Alternatives Program for Mentally Retarded/Developmentally Disabled Individuals in the five county area.
Additional information about the MH/DD/SAS Health Plan and the N.C. Innovations waivers is available in
