Psychological services provided through school-based health centers and health departments provide early identification and intervention for children and adolescents through age 20 who may be at risk for developing more serious emotional/behavioral problems as well as those who are already experiencing these problems.  Early identification and intervention helps prevent inappropriate and costly referrals and contributes to client choice and the enhancement of physical and behavioral health.

Services may include comprehensive psychosocial assessments and treatment planning, goal directed psychotherapy (individual, group and/or family), and/or referral to other mental health resources as needed.

For service requirements, coverage criteria and limitations, refer to Clinical Coverage Policy #8I, Psychological Services in Health Departments and School Based Health Centers Sponsored by Health Departments to the Under 21 Population.
