DIRECT DEPOSIT SERVICES

The North Carolina Office of Child Support Enforcement (CSE) is now offering Direct Deposit services. Direct Deposit, also known as electronic funds transfer (EFT), means the automatic deposit of your child support payments directly into your checking account. Direct Deposit is available only for checking accounts at this time.

When a payment is posted to your child support case, your bank is notified to credit your account with the payment. In most instances, your payment will be received at your bank within two business days after the CSE applies the payment to your case.

Some advantages of Direct Deposit are:

  • Mailing time is eliminated.
  • Fewer trips to the bank.
  • No lost or stolen checks.
  • It's safe and confidential. ·
  • You may call your bank to verify your deposit.
  • Your bank will provide you with a record of each deposit to your account.

To sign up for Direct Deposit, complete the Authorization For Automatic Deposit of Child Support Form* and attach a voided blank check. After the authorization form is received, completely filled out and signed by you, we will contact your bank to set up the Direct Deposit. Please allow 3-4 weeks for Direct Deposit to take effect. In the meantime, you will continue to receive your support checks in the mail.

Many banks now offer a "debit card" account that could be used for direct deposit of child support. (The bank may have a different name for it.) This service would allow you to withdraw the child support through an ATM after it is deposited. A debit card account may be less expensive than a checking account. After you have established this account with your bank, you may sign up for direct deposit using the authorization form. Instead of attaching a blank check, please have your bank attach some form of verification of your debit card account number and the banks transit number.

*The Authorization for Automatic Deposit of Child Support Form is available to be downloaded. In order to download you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have the reader, please visit www.adobe.com for a free download.
