Answer: The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP)
provides a one-time cash payment to help eligible families pay heating
bills. Applications are taken at local county
Department of Social Services in the fall and checks are mailed to eligible
households in February.
Question: How do I receive
heating or cooling services in an emergency situation?
Answer: The Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) provides
services to low-income households who are experiencing or in danger of experiencing
a heating or cooling related crisis. A household must have a net countable income
equal to or below 150% of the current poverty level and include a United States
citizen or an eligible alien. To find out more, please visit the
