Thousands of people in North Carolina are affected daily by the problem of homelessness. North Carolina is working to meet the temporary and long-term needs of its homeless residents. The state is eliminating homelessness through a state 10-Year Plan and through similar plans being adopted by communities throughout the state.

This body advises the Governor and the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services on issues affecting people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

The state's Emergency Shelter Grants Program (ESG) works to improve the quality of existing emergency shelters.
