Lesson 1: Basics
Introduction: Why Do I Need to Know About This?
-- Page 1 of 2 Pages --

Answer the following questions honestly:

1. Have you ever told a "dirty joke" in the office? YES or NO?
2. Have you ever made fun of another employee's personal characteristics such as accent, style of dress, or an older employee's computer phobia? YES or NO?
3. Have you ever quit a job or transferred to another work unit to get away from a bad situation with a supervisor or coworker? YES or NO?
3. Have you ever been "passed over" for a promotion or raise because of your sex or race? YES or NO?

If you said yes to #1 or #2, you could be accused of harassment!
If you said yes to #3 or #4, you may have had a valid harassment claim!
And no matter how you answered these questions, you may still be thinking:
  • "I could never be accused of harassment! So, I'll never have to know what to do if I am accused."
    - or -
  • "We don't have any problems like this in our work unit. I'll never have to worry about this."
Hmmmm.... Let's take a look at some more issues.
