FlipchartJohn supervises a group of men and women who do training. Whenever any of the female trainers has to take a lot of materials and equipment to another location for a training session, John asks the men to handle the equipment. In asking the men to help out, John always says something like, "Let's not make the ladies carry this heavy stuff." The women have never asked for help, but do not refuse it, and the men have not complained. Possible Consequences
Workers TalkingAlejandro supervises several employees. He and several of his employees are Hispanic, but they also speak English. Alejandro and the other Hispanic workers eat lunch together daily, talking and joking. And during the workday, they often begin talking in rapid Spanish when they are joking around or talking about their families or girlfriends. Several times, William, the one non-Hispanic employee has complained to Alejandro that he never heard some news related to shifts and assignments. Alejandro jokingly tells William to "pay closer attention!" Possible Consequences
JeansMaggie supervises a group of men and women. On Friday, casual day, the men generally wear nice jeans and golf shirts, but the women are not allowed to wear jeans. Maggie has told the women that it is even more important for the women to dress "a little better" than the men at all times to get ahead. She says, "It's a man's world, so we need to work harder and dress better to get ahead!" The women do not like this unbalanced dress code. Possible Consequences
