Who should you call?

If you are faced with an emergency situation, be sure that you know who to call. Most people know to call 911 in a standard emergency, but in some cases, you may want to contact a local police or security officer to get someone on the scene even quicker!

Some offices are served by Capitol Police and others at institutions have campus police or security.

If you are worried, scared, or someone is in danger, contact one of the following law enforcement or security officers:

Police
  • Capitol Police at 733-4646 if you are in a state building in Raleigh,
  • your campus police or security office if you are work in an institution,
  • your building security officer if you have one, or
  • call 911 in all other cases. Remember, that you may need to actually dial 9-911 to access an outside line.

If you do not know your site's police or security office phone number, find out right away and post it in your work area. Depending on the situation, you might call your site security or police to get someone there right away and call 911 also for a back up.

Don't feel embarrassed about calling for help! Even if something started out as a joke or seemed harmless at first, you are the best judge of the situation if it changes. It is better to be safe than sorry.

A well-timed emergency call or complaint to authorities could save your life or the lives of others!
