Performance Management Supervisors

Course Description

The Performance Management program provides information on writing workplans, outlines the phases of the work cycle, and describes the skills and strategies to influence employees to manage their own work. Participants will learn to write expectations, track performance, coach employees, and to conduct fair performance appraisal sessions. This is a two-day training session covering the state policy requirements as well as DHHS Performance Management Policy.

Once this course is completed participants will have access to the Online Workplan Guide.


General Course Objectives

Participants attending this course will learn to:

  • Write a defensible workplan.
  • Meet with employees and successfully communicate performance expectations and dimensions.
  • Identify the legally defensible strategies within the N.C. system.
  • Identify ways of tracking employee performance.
  • Coach and reinforce employees who may not be meeting expectations.
  • Provide feedback through a performance evaluation.
  • Identify key biases supervisors may encounter in doing performance appraisals or interim reviews.

Intended Audience:
Open to all frontline supervisors and managers.
