Disciplinary Action Process

HR Classes Offered to DHHS Supervisors

This four-hour training session covers the why, what, and how of the disciplinary action process policy and how to issue discipline, so that it is legally defensible. At the completion of the program, participants will understand and be able to effectively administer the disciplinary action process, including writing effective disciplinary action letters.

General Course Objectives

Participants attending this course will learn to:

  • Discuss and understand their role in effective disciplinary action.
  • Describe and explain a reason for disciplining an employee according to the state policies and procedures.
  • Identify non-disciplinary separation from employment situations.
  • Distinguish between employment at will and protected employment situations.
  • Describe the requirements for due process as well as consideration and perquisites to discipline.
  • Describe the types of discipline and draft effective discipline action letters based on the type of disciplinary action.
