Dorothea Dix Hospital
Dorothea Dix Hospital, founded in 1856 as North Carolina's first hospital dedicated to the treatment of mental illness, sits on a hill in south Raleigh overlooking downtown. Current specialty units include adult admissions, adult long-term, adolescent residential treatment, forensics treatment and pre-trial evaluation, clinical research, medical, and child outpatient training.
