North Carolina Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities
In the Summer and Fall of 2011, the Division of Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Abuse Services conducted an Information Inventory of all active Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF) in North Carolina and within forty miles of the North Carolina border. The purpose of the effort was to gather information that comprised basic logistical and clinical information regarding the PRTFs. The intention then was to share this information with children and their families, Child and Family Teams, Local Management Entities and PRTFs such that planning might be done with efficiency and focus to serve all.
The PRTF Information Inventory was conducted in a manner that asked PRTFs a specific set of questions. What follows represents the information that was provided. This is not a report card or judgment as to the quality of the PRTFs. PRTFs can and do change procedures, policies, practices, and requirements, so consumers are cautioned to check with the PRTF that is being considered to ensure information is current and accurate.
For Child and Family Teams who have found a need for a PRTF, this data may aid you in determining which PRTFs might best meet the needs of the child in question by focusing on location, age range, gender, best practice application, specialty populations, IQ requirements, accreditation, education services provided/credit transference, and other information that will be relevant to such placements.
