Person-Centered Activities
The Department of Health and Human Services wants all consumers to benefit from services that are "person-centered." Person-centered means that we change how we think, what we do, and how we structure our services so that we can help individuals receiving services to have better lives.
The Office of Long-Term Services and Supports is working to encourage person-centered thinking, planning and organizations across agencies providing services to older adults and people with physical and sensory disabilities. The office has facilitated the development of Person-Centered Principles that has been adopted by the Long-Term Services and Supports Cabinet for use by the department. The office is also:
- developing person-centered tools and training
- certifying person-centered trainers
- supporting person-centered leaders and coaches in selected person-centered organizations:
press release - September 16, 2008

- developing a "How To" manual to assist organizations in becoming more person-centered
- creating communities to encourage person-centered thinking and practice
The Learning Community is an additional resource for more information on person-centered concepts.
