Division of Public Health Partners with FOX 50,
Duke Medicine and UNC Health Care
to Create HIV Testing Campaign
RALEIGH – “Get Real.Get Tested.”, a campaign designed
to encourage the general public to get tested for HIV, will kick off
on Tuesday, Nov. 14. The campaign includes a series of televised public
service announcements and educational announcements on FOX 50. The
first announcements will run on Tuesday during the show “House,” which
airs at 9 p.m. on FOX 50.
“We’re excited to be working with FOX 50, Duke Medicine
and UNC Health Care on this project,” said Evelyn Foust, State
AIDS Director. “We want everyone to know their HIV status, know
their partner’s HIV status, and get tested.”
“This is a major health crisis among young adults in North Carolina
and the communities we serve,” said Thomas Schenck, V.P. and
General Manager of FOX 50. “Putting community first is the goal
of FOX 50 and Capitol Broadcasting, and we are confident this campaign
will make a difference.”
An estimated 29,500 North Carolinians are infected with HIV. Many
of those don’t know that they are infected. The North Carolina
Division of Public Health and FOX 50 (WRAZ/Capitol Broadcasting Company,
Inc.) have partnered to create this campaign in response to the rising
number of HIV cases being reported in North Carolina—1,806 new
cases last year alone.
