DHHS to unveil portrait of late Governor Jim Holshouser as part of Rural Health Anniversary

Raleigh, N.C. -Dr. Aldona Wos, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and Dr. Robin Cummings, deputy secretary for Health Services, will join staff of DHHS' Office of Rural Health and Community Care and partners to unveil a portrait honoring former Governor James Holshouser to celebrate the office's 40th anniversary on Thursday, November 21 at 2 p.m. The Secretary will also be presenting the Governor's proclamation which proclaims November 21st as Rural Health Day in North Carolina. The Office of Rural Health, created by Holshouser, was the first of its kind in the nation. His daughter, Ginny Holshouser Mills, will attend, along with leaders from rural health practices across the state who will give remarks and be recognized.

The office of Rural Health and Community Care provides services in every county in North Carolina. ORHCC supports rural health centers with funding and technical support and helps to place medical, psychiatric, and dental providers in communities throughout the state. In SFY 2012, the office provided technical assistance to over 145 communities and 678 organizations.
