N.C. Medicaid Reform Advisory Group to Hold Third Public Forum Wednesday, February 26

Raleigh, N.C.

Raleigh, N.C. - A public meeting on Medicaid reform will be held by the N.C. Medicaid Reform Advisory Group and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS):

Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014
1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
State Library/Archives and History Building
109 East Jones St.
Raleigh, NC 27601

American Sign Language interpreters will be present. Attendees do not need to preregister. Please sign in and collect a name badge when you arrive. Note that seating is limited.

At this meeting, DHHS will share with the advisory group an initial Medicaid reform proposal. The public is invited to observe the presentation and discussion between the advisory group and DHHS.

Since early last year, Medicaid beneficiaries, providers and other stakeholders throughout the state have provided DHHS with recommendations around creating a Medicaid system that rewards healthy outcomes. The proposed plan will take into consideration what is already working well in North Carolina and build on that foundation using stakeholder and expert input.

The advisory group was instructed by the General Assembly to serve as a forum for stakeholder input and to ensure transparency in the Medicaid reform process. It has held two prior public forums in December 2013 and January 2014. Presentations, handouts and videos from those meetings are available on the DHHS Medicaid reform webpage.

The comments heard at this meeting will contribute to furthering the dialogue between the Department and stakeholders. DHHS will formally present its plan to the General Assembly March 17, 2014.

Medicaid reform has three objectives mandated by the legislature:

  • Create a predictable and sustainable Medicaid program for N.C. taxpayers
  • Provide care for the whole person by uniting physical and behavioral health care
  • Increase administrative ease and efficiency for N.C. Medicaid providers
