Families with an EBT card are eligible for reduced admission to North Carolina aquariums.
March 13, 2018 — More than 1,000 adults and children have taken advantage of a program available since November that offers reduced admission to low-income families who present an Electronic Benefits Transfer, or EBT, card at North Carolina aquariums.
The program reduces admission prices from $10.95 to $3 for adults, $8.95 to $2 for children aged 3–12, while children 2 and under remain free. The prices are available year-round and are available at the North Carolina aquariums at Roanoke Island, Pine Knoll Shores and Fort Fisher. Visitors must present their EBT card and a valid form of photo identification.
The project is a joint initiative between the North Carolina departments of Natural and Cultural Resources and Health and Human Services. It was inspired by the national Museums for All program, which aims to expand access to museums and other cultural institutions by removing financial barriers to admission.
