Educators and Researchers

The state's public and private colleges and universities increasingly show interest in the concerns of older adults and in aging as a process. This is evident in the work of the new Institute on Aging of the University of North Carolina. The Institute on Aging is supported with funds from the N.C. General Assembly. It is to focus on research, education, and public service and is to connect the interests of the many campuses in North Carolina.

In addition, community colleges and cooperative extension agents provide education and training of service professionals and consumers.



• The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service serves all 100 counties and the Cherokee Reservation. Its agents provide individuals and families with information important to planning for elder care and for coping with caregiving responsibilities.

• Duke Long Term Care Resources Program - The goal of the program is the enhancement of effective long term care policy and service development in the interest of vulnerable adults and their families.
