Cherry Hospital is an inpatient regional referral psychiatric hospital in Goldsboro, NC. As one of three psychiatric hospitals operated by the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Cherry Hospital provides services to 38 counties in the eastern region of North Carolina.
As a place of hope, care and recovery, Cherry Hospital has been working to improve the lives of those experiencing severe mental illness for more than a century. A teaching site for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and Campbell University, Cherry Hospital welcomes psychiatry residents, fellows and medical students routinely as they embrace the opportunity to train with the professional staff holding clinical faculty appointments.

Cherry Hospital offers mental health services to adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. With a full staff of licensed psychiatrists as well as internal medicine, family medicine physicians and mid-level practitioners, the hospital provides short term care as well as long term care when necessary. Treatment is comprehensive and includes physical, diagnostic, an array of therapeutic approaches including individual, group, behavior, milieu therapy, occupational, recreational and creative arts therapies.

When may I visit a Cherry Hospital patient? Are there regular visiting hours?
Our desire is that you enjoy your visit. The following guidelines will assist you in having a safe and successful visit. Visiting hours in the adult units are daily as follows:
Monday–Friday: 2pm-5pm and 6pm-9pm
Weekends: 9:30am–10:30am, 1:30pm–4:30pm, 6pm–8pm
More about Cherry Hospital
Cherry Hospital has a rich and interesting history that the staff is eager to share. A museum on campus is open to the public from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Appointments should be scheduled in advance to ensure staff availability. Same day appointments are not available.
In the museum visitors will find written documents, photographs, books and other artifacts that span from 1880 to present. These items provide a glimpse into the history of Cherry Hospital which opened as a psychiatric facility for African Americans from all 100 counties of North Carolina.
Admission is free and individuals and groups are welcome.

The Cherry Foundation, Inc.
This not for profit and tax exempt organization (501(c)(3) Organization) was established to provide further assistance to those affected by mental illness while admitted at Cherry Hospital. Contributions are tax deductible and are utilized directly for the therapeutic care of the patient. Gifts may be made in the form of endowments, cash donations, State Employees Combined Campaign or honorary/memorial contributions.
