Data on Central Regional Hospital

Central Regional Hospital (CRH) is the first newly built state-of-the art State-operated psychiatric hospital.  It is one of three (3) projected new State psychiatric hospitals (Cherry and Broughton) to be built in North Carolina over the next 5 years. The 432-private room Hospital serves the acute mental health needs of NC citizens from 26 counties and employs more than 1,600 staff, including 50 doctors, 240 professional nursing staff, and 400 health care technicians.

The psychiatric hospitals are inspected on a regular basis by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Inspectors may also conduct inspections in order to assess problems that arise between recertification visits.  CMS decides whether the hospitals are in compliance with standards and thereby eligible to receive payment through Medicare and/or Medicaid. 
The hospitals are also inspected by the Joint Commission, an independent not-for-profit organization that accredits health care organizations. Copies of CMS and Joint Commission inspections are available from the DHHS Public Affairs Office at 919-733-9190.

Significant Events

If any deaths occur in the hospital, or if there are any significant patient injuries or significant events involving staff, these will be reported on this page.

Information related to deaths may be obtained from the Chief Medical Examiner's Office at http://ocme.dhhs.nc.gov/ or at 919-743-9000 and/or with permission granted from the patient/resident or their legally responsible person in accordance with NC General Statute 122C-52(e) and 42 Code of Federal Regulations Chapter 7.
