******Alert #317******

Durham Police have announced the arrest of two Charlotte men on felony charges of obtaining property by false pretenses. The men were accused of approaching people in the parking lots of Durham area Walmart stores and then running the so-called Pigeon Drop scam on them.

According to the Durham Herald-Sun newspaper, Charles Henry Arms, age 73, and Ramee Shabazz, 57, twice convinced victims to pay them “good faith money” in order to share in a large quantity of cash they claimed they had found. After the victims provided the men with the “good faith money,” in one case $790 and in another case $10,000, the men reportedly left them with large bundles of paper that looked like cash, then disappeared. Police discovered and arrested the men as they allegedly tried to run the scam on an elderly shopper in the parking lot of a Walmart store on Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway.

Arms and Shabazz were later released on bail. Their photos and additional details on the alleged scams can be found at http://www.heraldsun.com/news/x1866990123/Two-men-charged-in-flim-flam-scams
