Am I eligible for Food and Nutrition Services?
Question: What are Food
and Nutrition Services and how are they issued?
Answer: Food and Nutrition Services help low-income
individuals purchase food. Authorized benefits are placed into accounts at a bank.
The benefits are accessed at grocery stores using Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT)
cards. EBT cards work like debit cards. For more information or instructions on how
to use the card, please contact your local county
Department of Social Services or visit the
US Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition
Services web site.

Answer: The amount of Food and Nutrition Services you may
receive will be determined by the following:

- The amount of income received by the people in the household
- The household's shelter expenses. This includes rent, mortgage, lot rent, homeowner's insurance, property taxes, and utility bills.
