Governor Cooper’s School Supply Drive is being held July 30-Aug. 17.

July 31, 2018 — Too many children will return to the classroom without the basic supplies they need to succeed. To help students and teachers, Governor Roy Cooper has kicked off his annual School Supply Drive and is encouraging state employees and North Carolina residents to donate.

The drive, which runs through Aug. 17, is designed to address unmet classroom needs in North Carolina’s public schools. On average, teachers spend about $500 of their own money on classroom supplies.

“Teachers shouldn’t have to dip into their own pockets to cover the cost of classroom supplies that their students need to learn,” Gov. Cooper said.

Requested items include:

  • Paper – all types
  • Pens and pencils
  • USB flash drives
  • Dry erase markers
  • Spiral notebooks
  • Sanitizing wipes
  • Tissues

Donation bins are available in state government buildings and all State Employee Credit Union branch buildings.

North Carolina residents are also encouraged to organize supply drives at their own workplaces. They can deliver items collected to a nearby Communities in Schools (CIS) affiliate. Information for starting your own drive can be found in Governor Cooper’s School Supply Drive Kit.

The Governor’s School Supply Drive is a partnership between the North Carolina Governor’s Office, the North Carolina Business Committee on Education, State Employees Credit Union and Communities in Schools.
