April 10, 2019 – DHHS Secretary Mandy Cohen and leaders and staff from across DHHS are reading to children to celebrate Week of the Young Child, which takes place April 8-12.

Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association of Young Children. It’s an opportunity for communities to focus on early childhood learning, and the programs and services that help children succeed in school and in life.

Secretary Cohen participated in the event by reading to the Early Preschool & Learning Center in Raleigh. Other DHHS leaders celebrating Week of the Young Child by reading in schools include Deputy Secretary for Human Services Tara Myers, Deputy Secretary for Medicaid Dave Richard, Deputy Secretary Susan Perry-Manning, State Health Director Betsey Tilson, Deputy Secretary Kody Kinsley, and Division of Child Development and Early Education Director Anna Carter.
