Planchard Named to 2019-2020 Class for Leadership North Carolina
Rebecca Planchard, DHHS’ Senior Early Childhood Policy Advisor, is one of 55 civic and community leaders from across the state that make up the 2019-2020 class for Leadership North Carolina (LNC), a leadership engagement program.
LNC annually chooses established and emerging North Carolina leaders from the government, business, nonprofit and education sectors to participate. Participants will learn about issues critical to the state and gain new insight into North Carolina’s strengths and challenges. They will also explore opportunities for how they will improve and empower their communities and the state.
Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services Staffer Named Disability Advocate of the Year
Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services staffer Bobbie Chestnut was named Disability Advocate of the Year by the Wilson Committee for Persons with Disabilities (WCPD) and the City of Wilson Human Relations Office.
Chestnut, who works in the Wilson Unit Office for DVRS, was honored during a Disabilities Awareness Awards Celebration luncheon on Oct. 17 for her dedication in promoting the mission of VR, her commitment to ensuring consumers reach their vocational goals and educating individuals and organizations about VR.
Chestnut received the award for dedication to consumers and motivating them to utilize their potential to reach their goals.
DDS Employee to Appear on "Wheel of Fortune"
Lawrence Holliday, a DA 2.0 in the TSA Unit at DHHS’ Disability Determination Services, is scheduled to appear on an upcoming episode of "Wheel of Fortune." It is expected to air in the Triangle at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 on WTVD. Tune in to watch Holliday spin the wheel and cheer him on!
Public Health’s Children & Youth Branch Volunteers for Habitat
Staff with the Children & Youth Branch of the Division of Public Health recently donated community service leave to assist with “Fiesta Build,” a Habitat for Humanity initiative to promote healthy living and quality of life among the Hispanic population by providing safe and adequate housing.
Medicaid Employees Serve Senior Citizens
Medicaid employees volunteered with the Inter-faith Food Shuttle organization on Oct. 15 to help pack 850 grocery bags for delivery to numerous senior housing communities. These groceries can provide up to eight nutritious meals for each senior. The Grocery Bags for Seniors program supplements the fixed income of older community members through door-to-door distribution of fresh produce and groceries. Healthy recipes and produce information cards are packed in the bags as well.
Medicaid Leader’s Article on Improving Health and Health Care Delivery Published in Journal
Kellie Crosbie, Medicaid’s deputy director of quality and population health, had an article entitled Quality Management and Improvement in North Carolina Medicaid Managed Care published in the North Carolina Medical Journal’s September/October 2019 issue.
The article addresses going from measurement to improvement in health and health care delivery. It includes information about Medicaid’s quality strategy, federal guidelines and quality assurance standards, and performance measures for Medicaid Managed Care health plans.
