NCATP Exchange

What is the NCATP Exchange?

The North Carolina Assistive Technology Program (NCATP) Exchange is a monthly listing of assistive technology and durable medical equipment that individuals and organizations throughout North Carolina wish to sell or donate.

The Exchange serves as a community connection resource, linking people who have equipment available with those who may benefit from it. NCATP protects the privacy of all participants and does not facilitate transactions or receive any profit from sales. Our role is simply to provide a platform that helps connect potential buyers, donors and recipients.
By promoting the reuse of assistive technology, the NCATP Exchange helps increase access to equipment while supporting sustainability and reducing costs for North Carolinians with disabilities.

Equipment Reuse at NCATP

What is Equipment Reuse?

The North Carolina Assistive Technology Program (NCATP) Equipment Reuse Program helps connect North Carolina residents with gently used assistive technology devices and durable medical equipment. Through this program, equipment is redistributed to individuals who can benefit from these resources, helping extend the life of valuable devices and increasing access to assistive technology across the state.

Where Does Reuse Equipment Come From?

Equipment available through the NCATP Reuse Program may come from:

  • NCATP Demonstration and Loan Program Inventory that was originally purchased with public funding and is no longer available for purchase or supported by the manufacturer.
  • Community Donations from individuals, organizations, and agencies who wish to make equipment available to others in need.

How Is Equipment Redistributed?

Long-Term Loans
Equipment purchased with public funds cannot be permanently given away. Instead, these devices are provided through long-term loans, allowing individuals to use them for as long as they are needed.

Redistribution of Donated Equipment
Equipment donated to NCATP without restrictions may be permanently reassigned to another individual who can benefit from its use.

Equipment Retained for Demonstration and Loans
In some cases donated equipment may be retained by NCATP to support demonstrations and short-term loans.

  • If a donor requests that a device remain available for demonstrations or loans, NCATP will honor that request whenever possible.
  • If a donated device would enhance services at an Assistive Technology Center, it may be added to the center's demonstration and loan inventory with the donor's approval.

When Can Demonstration Equipment Be Reassigned?

NCATP staff determine when a device has reached the end of its useful service life within a demonstration or loan program. At that point, the equipment may be considered for redistribution to individuals who need it.
