The North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) is deploying guard members to Alamance Regional Medical Center, part of the Cone Health System, in Burlington, N.C. to support staff and hospital operations. The 25 NCNG soldiers and airmen will arrive Thursday morning.

While COVID-19 cases are declining and hospitalizations are starting to show downward trends, the recent Omicron wave strained many hospital systems across the state. This assistance from the NCNG will help Alamance Regional staff who are still experiencing a high caseload from the surge and is navigating staff shortages.

The guard members will support hospital staff and operations assisting with:

  • Vital sign checks
  • EKG procedures
  • Data entry
  • COVID-19 testing
  • Environmental Services support
  • Patient check-ins
  • Meal delivery
  • Transportation

The 25 Guardsmen will remain onsite through Friday, March 4. The workload they take on will allow Alamance Regionals doctors and nurses to focus more solely on their hands-on work with patients.

Cone Health requested staffing assistance in January through the NC Department of Health and Human Services, in coordination with the NCNG and NC Emergency Management.
