We know that events like this are stressful and there is no right or wrong way to feel. People can experience a wide range of emotions as anxiety manifests differently in everybody. Signs of distress can include: changes in sleep, appetite, energy or substance/medication use and physical manifestations such as headaches or stomach aches. The important thing to know is that there are resources to help people cope with the ramifications of traumatic events.

In collaboration with our partners, help is available through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357), (also known as the Treatment Referral Routing Service) or TTY: 1-800-487-4889. The Helpline is a confidential, free, 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year, information service, in English and Spanish, for individuals and family members facing mental and/or substance use disorders. This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups and community-based organizations. Callers can also order free publications and other information.

Critical mental health services, especially during times of crisis are also available through Local Management Entity/Managed Care Organizations (LME/MCOs). People who are uninsured or have Medicaid can call the crisis line of the LME/MCOs in their region.
