Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

Update Regarding the Federal Government Shutdown

The WIC program is not yet funded for Fiscal Year 2026. Despite the federal government shutdown, the North Carolina Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is operational and remains open for business. We will send out additional information if any changes to WIC operations are required due to the ongoing government shutdown.

What We Do

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children - better known as the WIC program - serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing:

  • Healthy Foods
  • Breastfeeding Promotion and Support
  • Nutrition Education
  • Community Referrals
