Dr. Daniel Carnegie has been appointed the new Chief Data Officer for DHHS. Daniel is deeply committed to developing intuitive, streamlined systems that empower teams across North Carolina to make informed decisions confidently. His passion for data-driven solutions, strategic leadership, and healthcare innovation aligns perfectly with our mission to enhance community health outcomes across the state.
Throughout his career, Daniel has brought transformative leadership to significant healthcare and technology initiatives. He successfully led one of the nation's largest Epic Electronic Health Records implementations for New York City, spanning 11 acute care hospitals and over 70 clinics. At Optum – UnitedHealth Group, a leader in healthcare innovation, Daniel drove initiatives that leveraged technology to enhance healthcare delivery and outcomes. He is board-certified in Preventive Medicine and has continuously worked at the intersection of policy, data, and public health.
Daniel holds a Medical Doctorate from Howard University's College of Medicine, an experience that was foundational in shaping his healthcare philosophy. He further expanded his expertise with dual Master of Public Health and Master of Business Administration degrees from Johns Hopkins University, gaining profound insights into preventive health strategies, community well-being, and strategic leadership. His residency in Preventive Medicine at UNC Chapel Hill reinforced his belief in the power of collaboration and adaptability, emphasizing his conviction that "meaningful change is only possible when people feel genuinely connected and valued."
