Why Practice in Rural North Carolina

Practicing in Rural North Carolina

North Carolina has a vibrant and diverse history and cultural mix with various  celebrations across the state including the Azalea Festival in Wilmington, the Biltmore Festival of Flowers in Asheville, the American Indian Heritage Celebration, the African American Cultural Festival and statewide PRIDE events. If you love arts and crafts, check out the world-renowned Penland School of Craft or the ceramics artists of Seagrove. If you love music, consider MerleFest. North Carolina loves recognizing science and technology as well as nature and the outdoors.  A combination of the two can be found at the Bigfoot Festival and the Whirligig Festival.

North Carolina has some of the most prestigious colleges, universities, and healthcare training programs in the world.  We are known for our continuing education and research opportunities.  We have a tremendous AHEC System!  Our beautiful beaches and breathtaking mountains are only hours apart.  These make for quick, affordable, and memorable vacation destinations. North Carolina is also midpoint between Florida and New York.

Programs in North Carolina work collaboratively with federal programs and one another, to maximize the impact for rural and underserved areas. Some of these programs include the FELS Program, incentive programs offered by Office of Rural Health, and Community Practitioner Program.  We focus on both recruitment and retention.

Healthcare professionals are valued in North Carolina as evidenced by robust, tax-free student loan repayment programs and other incentives.  We have an abundant of opportunities in thriving practices. Each of these opportunities offer the chance to develop close, dynamic, intergenerational relationships with patients and families. If we trust our families with you over the generations, we hold you in very high esteem!

People travel to North Carolina because of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Appalachian Trail, funky B&Bs, luxury accommodations, beautiful waterfalls, golf, equestrian events, and so forth.

Sports teams are very important in North Carolina.  Sports is like a religion here in our state. There is definitely dissension among the team affiliations. Regardless of friendly rivalries, we’re passionate about our little league, college and professional teams.

We know how to cook with southern charm – and make the best barbecue in the world. It is still up for debate on which side of the state does barbecue the “right” way?

North Carolina is best known for its diversity of people, places, and points of view coming together – sometimes noisily – with the goal of making North Carolina a great place to live!  The biggest misconception about North Carolinians is that we talk funny. Our response to that is, “We don’t. Y’all do!”

North Carolina has a number of key industries, including energy, aerospace and defense, automotive, biotech and pharmaceuticals, business and finance.

The weather in our state is very interesting.  If you like wearing shorts in December or seeing snow at the beach, you will like calling North Carolina home!
