DVRS Internship Application

Applying for a VR Internship

An equal opportunity employer, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services invites students pursuing a master’s degree from an accredited institution to apply for a rehabilitation internship. While preference is given to rehabilitation counseling majors, other human services majors will also be considered. Our NC Assistive Technology Program also accepts interns that are pursuing speech therapy and occupational therapy degrees. Opportunities can develop in any one of our 80-plus offices across the state. You can gain valuable experience toward a career as a rehabilitation professional, work hands-on with a variety of caseloads and learn about opportunities that arise for permanent employment.
You should view this process in the same way you would an application for a permanent position.

  • Students please contact the office manager in the local area that you are interested in pursuing your internship.
  • Complete the Internship Application and submit it by e-mail to the local office manager.
  • The hiring manager will review the internship application and schedule an interview for consideration.
  • Applicants will be informed within two weeks of the interview if an internship will be offered.
  • Once an applicant has been accepted as an intern, the student must complete additional background screenings.
  • Applicants will be informed of placement decisions in writing.
  • Applicants who accept placements must complete the acceptance packet and return to the Lead Office Assistant or Site Supervisor prior to the starting date of the internship.

During the application process, please contact the local Region Education Specialist if you have further questions.
