NCDHHS has announced leads for the NC Rural Organizations Orchestrating Transformation for Sustainability (ROOTS) Hub. The organizations will work as regional networks connecting medical, behavioral health and social supports as NC increases access to care for rural communities.

Food and Nutrition Services

Food and Nutrition Services is a program that helps eligible people with limited incomes supplement their budgets so they can purchase food. The program is nationally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Operation Fan Heat Relief

NCDHHS is partnering with the state area agencies on aging and local service providers to distribute fans to eligible recipients through Operation Fan Heat Relief from May 1 – Oct. 31. People ages 60 and older, as well as adults with disabilities, are eligible to sign up for assistance at local aging agencies across the state.

WIC Program

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing healthy foods, breastfeeding support and nutrition education.
