Guest Speakers: Trish Farnham (NC Center for Workforce for Health) and Kezia Scales (PHI), as well as Rosa Plasencia and Dorothy Hiersteiner from the National Core Indicators - Aging and Disability team at ADvancing States and HSRI, who will provide a preview of the upcoming State of the Workforce survey that North Carolina will be participating in to support workforce efforts across the state.

Key Recommendations (6)

Health and Well-Being (Age-Friendly State and Communities Priority)

  • Foster a culture of healthy living across the lifespan by supporting programs that improve older adults’ health and well-being, such as multipurpose senior centers and evidence-based health promotion.
  • Promote best practices in health care delivery that engage older adults as active participants in their care.

Long-Term Care Costs and Medicare (Long-Term Services and Supports Priority)

  • Increase public awareness and understanding of long-term care insurance (LTCI) and Medicare.
  • Launch a statewide initiative to simplify coverage information, expand accessibility, and help individuals plan for future care needs.

Workforce (Workforce Priority)

  • Build a stronger aging services workforce through recruitment campaigns and partnerships with schools.
  • Implement recommendations from the Investing in North Carolina’s Caregiving Workforce report.
  • Expand loan repayment, tuition reimbursement, and other financial incentives to attract health professionals to aging services.
