What is the NC Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program?
The NC Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides eligible lower-income older adults with coupons to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables at their local farmers' markets. The program is designed to improve nutrition security.
The 2023 SFMNP season is now closed. Please check back in early spring 2024 for information on the 2024 SFMNP season. Typically, the NC SFMNP runs from July 1 to September 30.
Which farmers’ markets accept SFMNP coupons?
During the 2023 season, 49 of the 100 counties in North Carolina participated in the program. Click here to see the 2023 map of the NC SFMNP.
What are eligibility requirements for the Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program?
For the SFMNP, a person must meet three requirements:
- Be 60 years of age or older
- Live in a participating county
- Have a household income of no more than 185% of the current Federal Poverty Level. The 2024 SFMNP income eligibility guidelines have not yet been published. In 2023, the income thresholds were as follows :
- $2,248 or less per month for a one-person household
- $3,041 or less per month for a two-person household
Note: The SFMNP is not an entitlement program. SFMNP coupons are not guaranteed, even if a person meets the eligibility requirements above. There may not be enough funds to allow every eligible person to receive SFMNP coupons.

The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation.
